Wilderness Preserve

The purpose of the Wilderness Preserve is to preserve local, national, and world forest values. These values include the biological, economic, social, cultural and spiritual relations between people and the area.

There are selected allowable uses for the WP. Restrictions are linked to the appropriate section of the management plan dealing in greater detail with each activity. Allowable uses for the WP were approved by the Iwokrama Board of Trustees in 2000. Given the overarching forest conservation and protection objective in establishing the WP, a number of permitted activities require the submission of an environmental impact assessment prior to implementation.

Non-commercial traditional use by local Amerindian residents is the only permitted activity not requiring planning permission.
