Trekforce Comes to Iwokrama

Trekforce Expeditions of the United Kingdom is committed to conservation, community and scientific projects in the world's rainforests, which we all know are under constant threat. The number of volunteers each year committed to making a difference is growing and this fact alone bodes well for the future.

Initial projects in Guyana will be eight weeks long. Two teams totaling nearly 40 people will conduct projects within the Iwokrama Forest. The teams will arrive on 30 January 2003 and undertake tasks including boundary work, flora and fauna transects, satellite camp construction, riverain clearance of deadfall and topographical surveys. Iwokrama offers great possibilities.

Trekforce hopes to work with Iwokrama for many years on worthwhile and sustainable projects. It also helps to raise the profile of this amazing reserve in the minds of people from all the countries in which Trekforce recruits. and beyond.

Trekforce is all about adventure with a purpose, and "Trekkers" are enthusiastic persons concerned enough about forest ecosystems to make an effort to come and make a difference while having fun and gaining knowledge. On recent Trekforce missions, in both Belize and Borneo, volunteers stayed for an additional few months to help in local communities. They worked in pairs as teaching assistants or on conservation projects with an array of organizations in those countries. Trekforce hopes that such an opportunity and service can be provided in Guyana through our upcoming missions here.
