David Singh Confirmed as Fourth Director General of Iwokrama

The International Board of Directors is pleased to announce that David Singh, Ph.D., has been appointed Director General of Iwokrama. Dr. Singh was appointed Acting Director General in January 2005 upon the resignation of the previous Director General, Graham Watkins, Ph.D. Dr. Singh previously held the post of Training and Resource Management Advisor from April 2004 to June 2004 and then Director of Resource Management and Training from July 2004 to January 2005.

 

Prior to working with Iwokrama Dr. Singh was attached to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  As the EPA’s Director of the Environmental Management Division, he led a team of 14 to many impressive accomplishments including refining authorisation, response to environmental complaints and incidents, and development of instruments for integration of environmental practices into planning and development. Dr. Singh boasts an impressive resume including the establishment of the National Environmental Testing Laboratory (the first in Guyana) and nearly ten years working in environmental management and pollution monitoring in Guyana.

 

The Directors and staff of Iwokrama wish Dr. Singh all the best in his new post and pledge to provide him with all the necessary support to lead Iwokrama into 2006 and beyond as it strives to create an international model of forest conservation, management and sustainable development.
