Community Outreach Programme

Iwokrama is collaborating with the communities of the North Rupununi District Development Board, Region 9, to promote HEALTHY LIFESTYLES.  This educational project provides information about HIV AIDS and aims to reduce stigma and discrimination about the disease in a community-based and timely manner.  Makushi Researchers, Community Health Workers, and Youth Leaders, have been trained to be peer educators, and work in their communities to provide information about HIV AIDS, positive behavior and living healthy. 

During workshops for peer educators, participants created thematic posters and banners promoting awareness about the disease as well as positive attitudes against stigma and discrimination.  The posters are being used in a calendar for 2007 and are a step towards a community owned project.
