Forest Guide Training Programme

Iwokrama International Centre has extensive experience in collecting, cataloguing and training in the areas of natural and cultural history and nature-based tourism. Iwokrama is proud to offer its services in the form of a comprehensive certificate programme for Forest Guides.

The Forest Guide Programme is highly regarded locally and internationally. It is active in the areas of ecotourism planning and marketing, community ecotourism development, community wildlife management, research, sustainable business development, and sustainable human development. To further strengthen and develop its ecotourism, Iwokrama recently constructed the first canopy walkway in the Caribbean. The Iwokrama Forest is now considered as one of the most studied natural sites in the Caribbean.

The curriculum is intensive and consists of eleven units and a series of exams completed over a period of 36 teaching days. Sessions take place in Iwokrama Forest, nearby areas, and other natural history sites in Guyana.  All participants are required to complete a field project.
