The Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development, through the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission (GWCMC), has been cnontracted by the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) to conduct population assessments and prepare management plans for the following Amazonia species: Spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus), Cuvier’s dwart caiman (Paleosuchus palpebrosus), Smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus tigonauts), Yellow – and -Red-footed tortoises (Chelonioids spp.), and the Lowland tapir (Tapirus terrestris)
