Cross-Border Cooperation for Ecotourism Development

Iwokrama reviewed ecotourism in the three Guianas, highlighting protected areas and cultural heritage.

Iwokrama completed a review of tourism in the three Guianas (Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana) under the RENFORESAP cooperation project, coordinated by the french Guiana amazonian park in partnership with Suriname and Guyana, it addressed ecotourism issues in the three Guianas such as Ecotourism Development in and around Protected Areas and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Heritage.

Our Commitment to Amazonian Species Conservation​

Iwokrama partnered with ACTO and GWCMC to develop management plans for key Amazonian species, including tortoises, caimans, and tapirs.

Iwokrama partnered with Amazon Conservation Treaty Organisation (ACTO) and the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission (GWCMC) for the development of Management Plans for prioritised Amazonian species: yellow- and red-footed tortoises (Chelonioids spp.), caiman (Caiman crocodilus, Paleosuchus trigonatus and Paleosuchus palpebrosus) and the lowland tapir (Tapirus terrestris).

Iwokrama is managing this grant with technical support from the Environmental Management Consultants Inc. This initiative focuses on thematic areas including but not limited to awareness on marine and conservation issues, ecosystem restoration, livelihood initiatives, and community support.
