The Exxon Mobil Foundation is providing multi-year support to the Iwokrama International Centre through the Guyana Conservation Initiative. Iwokrama is managing this grant with technical support from the Environmental Management Consultants Inc. This initiative focuses on thematic areas including but not limited to awareness on marine and conservation issues, ecosystem restoration, livelihood initiatives, and community support.

Iwokrama partnered with Amazon Conservation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission (GWCMC) for the development of Management Plans for prioritized Amazonian species: yellow- and red-footed tortoises
(Chelonioids spp.), caiman (Caiman crocodilus, Paleosuchus trigonatus and Paleosuchus palpebrosus) and the lowland tapir (Tapirus terrestris).

Iwokrama received funding from Biopama for project titled ‘Improve infrastructure and capacity for monitoring and community development within Iwokrama Forest’. The grant supported equipment to support monitoring and youth activities, training workshops and rehabilitation works for the ranger stations.

Iwokrama completed a review of tourism in the three Guianas (Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana) under the RENFORESAP cooperation project, coordinated by the french Guiana amazonian park in partnership with Suriname and Guyana, it addressed ecotourism issues in the three Guianas such as Ecotourism Development in and around Protected Areas and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Heritage.

Repsol Exploración Guyana, S.A. continued to support Iwokrama’s outreach activities. Support included provision of school supplies to Fair View Primary and Surama Nursery and Primary Schools, development of outreach materials, improvement of existing solar capacity for the schools.
