BIOPAMA PROJECT

Improve Infrastructure and Capacity for Monitoring and Community Development.

Funded by: Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) Programme

The BIOPAMA Project is focused on strengthening Iwokrama’s capacity for ecological monitoring and enhancing support to local communities. The initiative is part of BIOPAMA’s commitment to improving the management and governance of biodiversity in African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries.

Capacity and Infrastructure Development

Under this project, Iwokrama acquired essential field equipment — including a new boat and engine — to enhance its forest monitoring capabilities.

These tools support ranger patrols, ecosystem assessments, and rapid response to environmental threats.

Additionally, the project will fund rehabilitation of key Ranger Stations, ensuring safer and more efficient field operations for conservation teams.

Community Engagement and Livelihood Support

In collaboration with local partners, a business development workshop was conducted in Fair View Village.

The training introduced natural dye techniques to women and youth, opening opportunities for eco-friendly enterprise rooted in traditional knowledge.

This initiative directly supports community-based sustainable development while reinforcing cultural heritage and economic inclusion.
